Invisalign®
Would you like straighter teeth without the appearance of metal brackets and wires? Invisalign® uses a series of clear, custom-made aligners to gradually move teeth. The aligners fit closely over your teeth and can be taken out for meals, brushing, and flossing.
At Franklin Family Dental, Dr. Sarah Zeh evaluates your teeth, bite, and smile goals before determining whether Invisalign in Franklin, TN, may be appropriate for you.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Each set of Invisalign aligners applies controlled pressure to selected teeth. As you progress through the series, the aligners guide your teeth closer to their planned positions.
You will wear each set according to the schedule Dr. Zeh provides. Most patients need to keep their aligners in place for 20 to 22 hours each day, taking them out only for meals, drinks other than water, and oral hygiene.
Clear aligners may help with concerns such as:
- Crowded or overlapping teeth
- Spaces between teeth
- Crooked or rotated teeth
- Certain overbites, underbites, and crossbites
Not every orthodontic concern is suitable for clear aligners. An evaluation allows Dr. Zeh to assess the movements required and discuss the available options.
What Is the Invisalign Process?
1. Consultation and Evaluation
Dr. Zeh examines your teeth, gums, and bite. She also discusses what you would like to change about your smile and determines whether Invisalign may meet your needs.
2. Planning Your Care
We gather the dental records needed to plan your aligners. These records help map out how your teeth should move during each stage.
3. Receiving Your Aligners
Once your aligners are ready, we check their fit and explain how to wear and care for them. You will progress through the series as directed.
4. Monitoring Your Progress
You will return for periodic appointments so Dr. Zeh can assess tooth movement and provide your next set of aligners. After you complete the series, she may recommend a retainer to help maintain your tooth position.
Invisalign FAQs
Can I eat while wearing Invisalign aligners?
Take your aligners out before eating or drinking anything other than water. Brush your teeth before placing them back in your mouth.
How long does Invisalign take?
The timeframe depends on your current alignment, bite, and planned tooth movements. Dr. Zeh can provide an estimate after completing your evaluation.
Are Invisalign aligners noticeable?
The aligners are made from clear material and fit closely over the teeth, making them less noticeable than metal braces. Small tooth-colored attachments may be needed in some cases.
